Cs İmportant Tactics

Staying Alive
Probably the hardest thing to do in CS. Staying alive long enough to finish off the enemy is no easy task. No matter where you are, your never safe from a sniper bullet or a enemy player lying in wait. There are a few golden rules you should follow if you want to live long in a game of CS :).

NEVER turn your back on cover you've not checked.
One example is a corridor. If your in one and there are 2 doors, you will of course choose one, and then go through it. However what about the other door? Chances are there is someone in there listening out of you. When they hear you rush down the corridor and out via the other door they will follow you and hit you from behind.
Watch ammo levels
Many players get caught out on the dreaded reload. There's nothing worse than being in a firefight and hearing 'click' and you start reloading, whilst the enemy is still firing at you :(. Always reload near cover. Don't stand in the middle of a corridor and reload. You never know who will spring out at you while your reloading. Try to reload when your in a quiet area or you know your safe. (say in between firefights). If your in a danger area do not be afraid to use the pistol or even the knife. If you chance a reload you may get killed as you do it. At least rearming yourself will ensure your ready for the next attack.
Remember walk...
Walking (default key: SHIFT) is vital in many situations. Although running around will get you to places faster, and make you a less easy to hit,  it does make a lot of noise. Any enemy players nearby will be alerted by your footsteps, and you'll lose the element of surprise. When in an area you know the enemy are going to be hanging around in, walk, don't run (walking makes no footstep noises). One good example of this is in sewer systems, where running causes an echoing noise which can be heard throughout the sewer, and any  enemy nearby will set themselves up to ambush you.
Listen
Always listen to your surroundings. Everything makes a noise in CS, and by learning what noises are related to which actions you can soon find yourself becoming more aware of your surroundings, and living longer. With a good set of speakers/headphones you can actually hear someone reload (if they are close by), and this is a good time to strike. Another example is when the hostages talk (when a player uses their USE key a hostage will say something like "Ok lets get out of here"). This indications that a player is in the hostage area which then allows you to work out a route to head down there, and surprise the player trying to rescue the hostage, or back them up if it's one of your team mates.

How to rack up the kills
This is a tricky area. When I first started out playing CS I would always end up with scores such as 2-8. I could never seem to get more kills than my 'deaths' total. I used to get frustrated seeing other players with scores as high as 21-2. However now I'm getting high scores. I rarely finish a game with less kills than deaths and 9 games out of 10 my kill count will be in double figures. Question your asking is how do you do it? :)

Choosing 2-3 weapons and sticking with them seems to help a lot. I knew learning every weapon first off was impossible (however I advise new players to try every weapon for a few games to get some idea of how they perform.). I stuck with the following weapons:
CT: Saur P-228 (Pistol) M4 (Rifle), MP5 (Sub-Machine Gun), Benneli XM (Shotgun)
T: Glock (Terrorist starting pistol), AK47 (Rifle), MP5 (Sub-Machine Gun), Benneli XM (Shotgun)

I ignored sniper rifles when I started out because I'm a crap sniper :). Now by sticking to these weapons I learned how to use them well. Reloading and firing them after a while became second nature and you do it automatically (unlike before when I had to keep checking ammo levels and adjusting aim).

Once you've got to learn your chosen weapons, the next step is aiming right. Holding the weapon steady, while still moving (if you try standing still and firing you won't last long :) ), aim for the head area or the neck, because most weapons (say ak47) will spray over an area and most of the bullets will hit the target.

Lastly to be accurate and get a lot of kills is only achieved by practice, and lots of it.

Know your enemy
Always play on both sides. Even though you may like the CTs, you have to force yourself to be a terrorist once in a while. Not only will this help keep teams even (if you spot the teams unbalancing don't be afraid to swap teams to correct it). By playing both the CTs and Terrorists you get to see the routes each side can take on a map. This will allow you to learn the maps, and judge roughly where the enemy will attack you from.

Weapons as well are important. Both teams have access to different weapons, like ak47 for the terrorists only, AUG CT's only e.t.c. By being on both teams you can get an idea of the power and range of the weapons. This will aid you when you are next in the weapons line of fire :).

Team Mates
This is a team game remember? :). Try to stick with your team mates. They will prove you with covering fire, and  of course you'll do they same for them.

However be careful. Watch where you throw flash grenades as there is nothing more annoying than your own team mate blinding his own team. Other things to watch out for our torches. Players get annoyed if another player lights them up like a christmas tree with the torch :). If a team mate is in a dark area with his torch off there is probably a good reason. Only use the torch for signaling. A lot of players flash their torch at areas, or near team mates (quick on/off). This grabs their attention. Lastly if a team mate is in front of you and is walking (holding down walk key) so no noise is being made from his foot steps which only happens when you run, do NOT run up behind them. Your footsteps will alert the enemy around the corner, which is precisely what your team mate was trying to avoid :).

Above all communicate. There are radio bindings in the game to allow you to talk to your team mates, but never forget the 'team talk' key. A quick message to your team to alert them to a danger and saves lives :).

A few times on public servers I have managed to spot the reason why my team was losing a lot of game rounds. I talked via team talk to my team mates and pointed out how to correct and stop the enemy. Thereby in effect rallying the team who where getting annoyed at losing for much. Although only one player acknowledged my chat the other players did follow what I said. The plan I gave them worked, and although we did lose the game, we managed to win a few rounds back by playing as a team. Do not be afraid to suggest ideas of how to beat the other team, although don't 'order' players around :).

Camping
This is a sore area for some, but I will say it now and get it over with:

CAMPING IS NOT BAD

Now camping is when a player sits in one area and lies in wait for the enemy. This allows them to snipe at approaching enemies or to launch a surprise attack. Camping is looked on as 'bad' in games such as Quake, UT, e.t.c, but in CS it's a tactic and should be used.

On public servers players will say "I hate camping", or "look at that lamer camping". I'm sure everyone has seen it. However for a terrorist player camping is a good way to stop the CTs from rescuing hostages e.t.c. If the terrorists can stop the CTs from rescuing hostages then they win the round. So why should the terrorists move out of their base to attack CTs? The answer is they don't. Some terrorist players will advance towards the CTs, but a few will usually hold back near the CTs game objective (say in the 'assassination' they will camp along the route they know the CTs will take).

- Use burst fire!
There's nothing more amusing then an enemy 30+m away with an automatic
weapon spraying at you and missing with every shot.
The p90 and mp5 are both deadly if you stick to 2 round bursts, and
back-off to let the crosshair shrink once in a while. By the time you've
fired a seven-round burst, you're totally off target.
The AK47 actually becomes a usable weapon if you burst fire two shots.

 - Don't use burst fire!

If you've got the p90, m4, ak47 or sig and you're close to your enemy, just
hold the trigger down - unless you're godlike at aiming and/or need to
conserve ammo.

 - Don't be afraid to switch back to the pistol

If you're holding a long-reload-time gun when it runs out of ammo, switch
back to the pistol rather than reload. The SIG-p228 is the best pistol in
the game, so if you're always running out of ammo you might consider buying
it instead of the default pistol.
Similarly, don't be afraid to switch back to the knife - it's better than
dying while you're reloading.

 - Flash at your teammates to let them know you're following.

This works pretty well - flash (just once) at their feet to let them know
you're still there. It saves them having to turn round and check to see if
you're still there.

 - If you're short on money, don't buy a weapon

Just buy armour and follow a close assault squad into battle. They'll die
or their enemies will die - either way there'll be a weapon on the ground
:-)

- Jump when you throw a grenade

 It goes further.

 - Don't last-man-camp.

If you're the last man left on your side, and there's more than one
opponent _don't camp_. (especially if you're a CT on a cs_ map or a T on a
de_ map). Admit the round's lost, go out in a blaze of glory and get on with
your life.
I've nothing against camping in most circumstances, but LMC's piss me off -
people are paying for their connections here, and we'd all like to get on
with the game.

 - Don't sidestep while crouched.

You move very slowly - if you're intending to enter a room without the
enemy noticing, they'll see your legs move into the room before your head
gets there.

when your camping behind a crate or above a ladder/manhole remember that if your using a rifle ,that the barrel maybe visible. YOU may be out of sight, but the tip of your colts silencer or your AKs barrel maybe visible. Also if sniping from a window (like in de_cobble) don't go up to the window, as you will be in plain view (so will your weapon), step back and snipe from the shadows. If you find that your the last CT/T alive and there is a CT/T camping below the ladder throw a flashbang down first and when you get just over halfway down the ladder press space and you will jump of backwards, as most snipers tend to aim at the bottom half of the ladder giving themselves time to time there shot.
General Tips - By Ben Dornan
People never seem to use flashbangs right (or at least most people). Most people seem to just throw them in and hide round a corner. Flashbangs are most useful, I find for:

a) covering your movement from one piece of cover to the next, especially in open areas doing this can cause enemies to totally loose you allowing you to get behind them,.
b) to cover a hasty retreat, as lets face it we all have to do that sometimes (smoke grenades can work for this too, and sometimes for a))
c) the most obvious, throw one in and just shoot the blinded bastard, although this only usually works when people are not expecting it. .

Do not do what most people do and throw them in and then not take advantage of the disabled enemies. From a defensive point of view it is a great help if you can recognise what types of grenades are being thrown at you, so you know how to react.

Use the radar --
Your radar (upper left) tells you where your team-mates are in relation to you. Use the radar to plan fall-back positions (closer to friendlies), ambushes, and identify weaknesses in your teams game-plan. Also, when a team-mate radios in for help (or any other radio message) it indicates which team-mate made the call (he blinks).

Listen to your team-mates --
There is nothing worse than a deaf team-mate. If someone is making a call for help, respond and move to help (see radar). Don't be afraid to use your walky-talky. Responding to a team-mates call helps coordination and cooperation within a team.

Use the obituaries --
Watch the death reports in the upper right of your screen. These tell you what weapons the enemy are killing your team-mates with. When used in conjunction with your radar, you can tell where your team-mates are being killed and how. Then you can decide how best to approach the situation.

Toggle to your knife for more speed --
This is an old, but useful one. When you are not in danger, and you need to move quickly, draw your knife. You'll move faster. Then, when you get closer to a potential hot spot, switch back to your primary (or secondary) weapon. NOTE: this is made easy by the 'Q' key.
Tip for map Oilrig - By Agent_Smith
- As a T 2 guys can hold the map totally by just camping the top of the stairs armed with ak4...... but when you are on your own just wait so you are opposite the stairs with the a railing front of you and the big lift to the left of you.

Drop back slightly so no ct can snipe you from the lift bottom with there nasty colt. so when some ct runs up the stair just lay some shots into him. If he don't die just run round back through the small corridor behind you and round to the other side door that faces the stairs. 9 times out of 10 the ct will have followed you to the door in the small corridor and wait there thinking your to the right or left of the door just run behind him and cap his a$$.

- Also try and work in groups of 2 so one person runs in and you overlap him and both sweep the rooms. When entering new areas sweep every corner everything and then check the door u just came from as you may have been followed. Shoot in bursts of a about 5-8 shots a time for greater accuracy.

- Wait for a minute at the start as your team mates rush off ahead, there will be mucho shootings and all players involved will have low health making your job easy.

- Range is very important in cstrike. If u get attacked by someone with a shotgun back pedal fast as his gun gets crap over long range, so when u got the shotgun run at the enemy make em swallow the buckshot.... Try to use the mp5 as you'll be able to buy one most rounds if u get good with this gun you can own the game.
